Silves: lockdown begins

Silves: lockdown begins

13th March 2020

Just a quick note to say that we hope you are all keeping safe and well, and steering clear of danger. It’s shocking how quickly this Covid-19 situation has become so serious. Thanks for the many messages to enquire about our whereabouts and wellbeing 💛

The virus is not as far advanced in Portugal as in some other countries in mainland Europe, although we have just jumped from 51 to 112 cases of the virus. I don’t think there have been any recorded deaths as yet. The virus is mainly in the Algarve (where we were), Lisbon (where we have been for two weeks) and Porto (where we were headed!). So we have changed our plans. We stocked up on essentials – yes, in Lisbon also there was a run on toilet roll, pasta, rice; the panic buying only started yesterday.  We are now in Silves, a beautiful small town about 15km inland from the Algarve coast.  We are in a small motorhome area (Algarve Motorhome Parks, Silves), just outside the town, and we will just have to wait and see what happens next.

Motorhome Park in Silves – Camper Stop Service Area from 6€ per day (algarvemotorhomepark.com) 37.18757862496018, -8.45134238786044

As we’re now outside the busiest season, when paying for a four-day block here, it’s €6 per night including EHU.

Last night, it was announced that all schools in Portugal are closing and another major announcement is expected later today, about what we don’t know.

So, I guess it’s a case for us all of just waiting, staying isolated as much as we can, and hoping that none of us catches it.

Sending you our love and best wishes,

Cait, Saul, Morgan & Olwen 💚
