Different types of vans
Caitríona: I have been intrigued to discover the big range of vehicles people use for vanlife. Our type, a pre-constructed motorhome, is the most common type, along with campervans which are usually smaller and more typically van-shaped, I suppose. This may be stating the obvious, but I did not know this when we started researching this way of life!
Here are some of the interesting vehicles we have spotted on our travels:

Bus-style homes: big style! These cost anything upwards of €100,000 😳

Some of these megavans have extensions which slide out at the side!

There are also motorhomes that are considerably larger than ours; ours is 7.3m in length

Here’s an older style truck

And then there are purpose-built campervans; these often have a shower room, as well as a sitting/sleeping area and a kitchen. They are very cleverly designed, perfect for one or two people to travel in, and they’re a lot easier to park!
Of course, it’s also perfectly possible to get a regular van or truck and do a conversion, or add to it in some shape or form. We’ve seen some interesting examples of these on our travels, including a converted fire engine!
We even saw a couple who tour on two pushbikes, with a small child each perched on seats in front of them; they carry all their camping equipment and belongings in small trailers behind them. This family were over 2,000km away from home by the time we saw them! 😲
